Just as “Badly Drawn Boy” is Damon Gough, “fusion IT” is Marc L. Grubb.
fusion IT is my brand – it explains what I do; my birth name does not. I’m a husband, a father of five, a home owner, and an entrepreneur. I started fusion IT in 2004 after 5 years of being the IT Director at an editorial boutique. Like every small business owner, my life’s combined experiences are what make my business unique.
I earned a TV/Film degree in college (way back when U2 was good) minoring in Business Administration and German. My Senior project was a regional finalist in the student Academy Awards. Afterwards, I worked in the U.S. and in Germany as a Film freelancer in almost every department imaginable; PA, camera assistant, grip, dolly grip, electric, props, VTR operator (1″ B-Format!), studio cameraman, & casting assistant. While looking for part-time Post Production experience, I was offered a full-time job, largely because my resume contained the phrase “Mac Power User”. Little did I know that TV commercial editing had been turned on its head, as it abruptly changed from scissors and glue to Mac-based Avid “Non-linear” editing systems. For the next 12 years I worked in Post Production.
About halfway through my Post-Production years, the IT position became full-time and I began taking my training very seriously. I specialized in networking, servers, and storage as well deepening my Post Production skills. After founding fusion IT and passing Apple’s Certification Exams, I joined the Apple Consultants Network. (see fusion IT + Apple, Inc. for an explanation of these programs.)
It’s been said that every new business represents an attempt by its founder to reorder and improve the world in some way, and with fusion IT I’m happy to be able to make a living doing just that. What I do goes beyond what most people think of as IT, combining everything I enjoy; Macs, Pro Video, design, social marketing, and productivity. What I enjoy most of all, though, is helping people and businesses be more successful. Click here if you are ready for ka-POW-er!
